Sometimes, you realize after college that you missed your calling. The NKU Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is built to develop bachelor’s degree holders who are already knowledgeable in their content areas into outstanding middle grades and secondary educators.
The program consists of 7-week online courses and includes multiple placements in local classrooms working with P-12 students. The program is priced at $400 per credit hour. You can complete the program in one of two ways: either (1) through unpaid internship in a local teacher’s classroom or (2) being hired by a Kentucky principal to teach the content in which you’re earning certification (called Option 6 certification). If you are hired on Option 6 certificate, your field placements may take place in your own classroom.
Please click below for additional information about online areas of concentration.
MAT students can choose to be certified in the following areas:
Middle Grades (5-9)
Secondary (8-12)
Grades P-12
Note: The MAT program does not provide certification in Elementary Education.
“At times, teachers have to be the counselor, the mediator, and much more. Teachers are some of the most important people in a student’s life.”
