Northern Kentucky University is a great place to prepare for a health profession career.  Not only do we offer programs in nursing , radiologic  technology, respiratory care and  the bachelor of health science, we have strong academic and clinical partners in the Greater Cincinnati area. Our faculty include some of the best thinkers, writers, clinicians and researchers in the country.

Our biggest and most exciting news is the move of the School of Nursing and Health Professions to a College of Health Professions effective July 1, 2009.  Moving to a College reflects the dramatic  increase in the number of students in the health professions majors  and the development of new programs to meet the needs of the community.

There are many dramatic changes occurring in health care today.  To meet the increased demand for nurses,  the Departments of Nursing and Advanced Nursing  are  in the process of  revitalizing several programs.

  • The BSN program curriculum change will focus on when students begin nursing classes and will incorporate increased simulation activities; new students will begin nursing classes in the 3rd semester of the  8 semester program  effective   Fall 2010.
  • The MSN programs in nursing education and  nursing administration are in the process of being updated. The faculty held focused group discussions with educators and nursing service representatives in the spring; courses will be revised based on this discourse.
  • The RN-BSN program will be streamlined in 2009/2010 and will be offered as an online program in 2010

The Department of Allied Health will offer the Bachelor of Health Science program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center starting fall 2009.

The College of Health Professions initiatives demonstrate a strong connection with the community.  Current projects include:

  • Lead screening and abatement project, sponsored by George A. Renaker Foundation
  • Nurse Advocacy Center for the Underserved
  • Pathways to Nursing, gives junior and senior high school students an up close view of nursing
  • Increasing the size of the Simulation lab to provide more opportunities for all students to work with the High Fidelity Simulators

I welcome your interest in our programs and look forward to meeting you when you become a student.
