Facilities

The College of Health Professions offers state of art facilities which assist in increasing NKU student's confidence, competency, and independence prior to their starting clinical assignments, enabling them to get the most out of their clinical experience and a head start on the competition in the job market.

Radiologic Technology Labs

Students in the Radiologic Technology program utilize the program's very own laboratory facilities which include the latest computed radiography technology along with three energized, radiographic rooms, as well as film processing capabilities.  These facilities enable students to simulate and practice the various radiographic positions they learn in class on fellow classmates (without radiation exposure), visually show how changes made at the control panel or in the type of equipment used will affect the quality of their radiographs, as well as review the anatomy shown on each of the radiographic phantom part exposures for real life visual learning and more.

Respiratory Care Lab

In the Respiratory Lab, students will learn to manage patient simulators with emergency and more long-term respiratory situations. In all, students will learn exactly what it's like to work in a real hospital. The programmable patient simulators will be given symptoms - and as students diagnose them, they will respond to treatment.  The labs will enable students to put the simulated patients on ventilators and treat those with cardiac arrest, in addition to learning to treat with oxygen therapy and care for the critically ill, as well as the everyday asthmatic.

Nursing Labs

The College of Health Professions has two different laboratories that prepare nursing students for the role of professional nurse, the Learning Resource Center and the Simulation Lab.

In the Learning Resource Center students will have the opportunity to learn and practice basic nursing skills such as baths, injections, central line care, and tracheostomy skills, to name a few.  In addition, wall mounted opthalmoscopes and otoscopes, along with other assessment equipment, enable students to practice and gain proficiency in assessment techniques.

The Simulation Lab houses 2 adult high fidelity human patient simulators and one infant high fidelity patient simulator. The lab is set up to look and feel like a real hospital. The simulation laboratory provides the student the opportunity to apply advance care concepts in a learning environment that is non-threatening.
